AREB Application Process
The process for submitting AUPs for review by the Animal Research Ethics Board (AREB) has been streamlined as follows:
- Consult veterinary staff to assist with planning the study. This is to ensure that information on endpoint issues and other veterinary matters can be addressed prior to AREB consideration. Please also review, prior to submission, the Canadian Council on Animal Care (CCAC) Guidelines pertaining to the use of animals, training requirements and setting of end points.
- ALL AUPs are now submitted via electronic software, A-Tune in the tick@lab platform – https://mcmaster.a-tune.com/tickatlab
- If new to the software you will need to email tickhelp@mcmaster.ca to obtain access. Include your name, McMaster email (you MUST have a McMaster email address for access for security reasons), title, department, supervisor (or indicate if you are faculty/PI), and contact number. You will then need to arrange a training session via the same email address. Once training is complete you can complete the AUP form on-line.
- Submit the draft AUP electronically to the Ethics Officer. The AUP will then be pre-reviewed via the Department of Veterinary Service and Compliance and recommendations will be communicated to the Principal Investigator / AUP Author. Once the Principal Investigator/Author has incorporated the recommendations into the AUP, it can be re-submitted electronically to the Ethics Officer according to the AREB deadline schedule. Please allow adequate time for this review.
